Etocryst-P

Etoricoxib and Paracetamol Tablets are used together to manage pain and inflammation, especially in conditions like arthritis, musculoskeletal pain, or acute pain from injury or surgery. This combination offers both anti-inflammatory effects (from Etoricoxib) and pain relief (from Paracetamol), providing more comprehensive pain management.

Components and Their Uses:

1. Etoricoxib:

  • Class: Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID), specifically a COX-2 inhibitor.
  • Mechanism: It works by selectively inhibiting the enzyme COX-2, which plays a key role in the production of inflammatory chemicals in the body. By blocking COX-2, Etoricoxib reduces inflammation, swelling, and pain without affecting the COX-1 enzyme, which is responsible for protecting the stomach lining.
  • Uses:
    • Treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and ankylosing spondylitis.
    • Relief of acute pain following dental or orthopedic surgery.
    • Effective in managing chronic pain due to degenerative joint diseases.

2. Paracetamol (Acetaminophen):

  • Class: Analgesic and antipyretic (fever reducer).
  • Mechanism: Paracetamol reduces pain by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the brain, which helps lower pain perception. It also reduces fever by acting on the heat-regulating center of the brain.
  • Uses:
    • Relief of mild to moderate pain (e.g., headaches, muscle pain, toothaches).
    • Reduces fever in various conditions.
    • Acts as a complementary painkiller alongside other medications like NSAIDs.
