Rabeprazole sodium (EC) and domperidone (SR) are combined in some medications to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and related conditions.

Rabeprazole sodium (EC): Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the amount of acid produced in the stomach. The EC (enteric-coated) form ensures that the drug is released in the intestine rather than the stomach, protecting it from stomach acid and ensuring effective absorption.

Domperidone (SR): Domperidone is a dopamine antagonist that helps increase the movements or contractions of the stomach and intestines, aiding in the movement of food through the stomach more efficiently. The SR (sustained-release) form allows the drug to be released slowly over time for longer-lasting effects.

Uses:

  • Treatment of conditions like GERD, acid reflux, or other disorders involving excessive stomach acid.
  • It helps relieve symptoms like heartburn, regurgitation, and nausea.
